Who operates Hirtshals - Larvik? +
Only Color Line, year-round on the fast ferry SuperSpeed 2. On some winter days the sister ship SuperSpeed 1 sails as well, or instead. More about the company is on the Color Line page.
How long does the crossing take? +
The scheduled crossing time is 3 hours 45 minutes. The late sailing from Hirtshals takes a little longer and reaches Larvik around three in the morning.
How often does the ferry run? +
Twice each way on most days: from Hirtshals at midday and late evening, from Larvik in the morning and late afternoon. In autumn, winter and April only one ferry runs on some days. Times for your date are in the timetable.
Does the ferry run in winter too? +
Yes, the route runs year-round. In winter, times and ship can change on individual days, so check your specific date.

Where do I book the crossing? +

What does the ferry cost? +

When should I book? +
As early as possible for summer holidays and weekends. Prices are dynamic, and booking early gives you a better chance of your preferred sailing.
Check-in, ID and customs
When do I need to be at the terminal? +
At least 60 minutes before departure. In Hirtshals, check-in closes 15 minutes before departure. Details are on the Check-in page.
Which ID do I need? +
Every traveller needs their own valid ID document, a national ID card or passport.
Are there customs checks in Larvik? +
Yes. Norway is not in the EU, so you pass through the customs area at the terminal on arrival. Anyone with something to declare, or travelling with a dog, takes the red lane.
Car, motorhome and bicycle
What dimensions apply for a car and motorhome? +
The car package covers up to 5 metres long and 1.95 metres high, the motorhome package up to 5 metres long and 2.55 metres high. Anything larger is booked to measure. More on the Motorhome & caravan page.
Can I stay in the car during the crossing? +
No. No one may stay on the car deck during the crossing.
Can I travel by bicycle? +
Yes, you book the bicycle as a separate vehicle class. The route without a car is described on the On foot & by bike page.
Dog and pets
Where does the dog travel on board? +
In your own car or in a booked dog box in the dog area. Only assistance dogs may enter the passenger areas.
What does my dog need for Norway? +
A microchip, rabies vaccination, EU pet passport and a tapeworm treatment shortly before arrival. Details are on the Dog & pets page.
On board
Are there cabins? +
No, the SuperSpeed 2 is a day ferry with no cabins. Free seating is in Centrum Seating and the Family Lounge, for a surcharge in Business Class and Voyager Class.
Can I eat on board? +
Yes, on Deck 8 in the Catch Me If You Can buffet restaurant or the Fly Me To The Moon bistro, open from departure to arrival.
Is there Wi-Fi on board? +
Yes, across the whole ship. It's free in Business Class.
What can I pay with on board? +
In euros, Danish kroner or Norwegian kroner.
